Chuseok in Busan

2nd and 3rd day in Busan was really hectic.

Chuseok day was 24th Sept. So the day before which was my 2nd day in Busan, i have to help MIL to do the food prep. Mil is a very hands on person and prefer to oversee and do everything herself. My hubs me and Mil have the same traits.

So i only help with the minor stuff like frying fish, storing cooked food and clear up the mess while she did the main cooking.

Frying the fish alone took us 2hours cos i have 12 fishes to fry. The stove was already occupied boiling soups etc so the fish frying was done on an electric pan on the floor.

After 2hrs, i smelled like fried fish lol.

Took her abt 9hrs to cook and prep food for chuseok’s prayers and after that, hubs and i washed up to meet his high school friends in Haeundae for dinner. I really felt very comfortable with this group of friends because they took care of me when i fell sick on my first trip with hubs and whenever i go to Busan, they will offer to fetch us home cos i was tired.

Till now im still not used to the 1 2 3 4 rounds of drinks n food Koreans do. I also cannot understand haha why eat n talk here alr must change to another place to eat and drink and talk again. And it can go on up to 3 or 4 rounds till late night.

By the 2nd round i alr shag alr. First round is usually dinner still ok. 2nd round i abit food coma liao. Somemore i dont drink. So i just eat …food coma..eat …food coma again lol. And alot of coca cola haha

Took train to Haeundae beach area after helping Mil with cooking chores.

So this time we had dinner at his senior’s restaurant in Haeundae. It is their yearly affair to have dinner there whenever we come to Korea.

My first and half glass of CASS.

Bbq pork is sooo yumm. i had meat EVERYDAY. Mil knows i love LA Galbi (Korean marinated beef) and you know..i had it really everyday at 10am as breakfast hahaha

Yes…i alr bui bui and fat alr. Cos i had beef every morning as breakfast together with rice, salad and another dish which is either noodles or soup.

Then 2pm i had lunch again..which is either beef again or fish or chicken stew. No wonder my hubs and bil grow so big and tall..Mil fed them too well alr. The amount if rice she used to cook porridge is a damn big pot. I tio stunned. This is the first time i ate her porridge so when i saw the huge pot, the one mum used to cook steamboat soup w pork bones kind. I kanna stunned. I thought she going to keep it for few days to eat but its for 1 day nia….and it is for 5pax…

Ok back to the bbq !

Fat and juicy pork belly!

Fringe on point so must take pic loh.

I cut and permed my fringe few days in sg before my flight to KR. Perming of fringe tokk abt 45mins and it gives volume to the front and curls to the sides. So no need to blow dry with curling combs. Shape of fringe looks nicer. Not so flat. But quite exp to do it in sg. Fringe perm costs 45bucks here excluding $10 cut fee. Everytime cut have to perm cos you may cut part of the perm away.

But only 15,000won in KR to cut and perm. Fringe cutting in KR is only 5000won which makes perming 10,000won at a reputable salon like Juno Hair.

After the pork belly dinner, they went for 2nd round at a HOF (hof means bar where pple drink and have finger food or snacks).

But before that we went to another of his friend’s PC 방 (PC Bang which means lan game shop). His friend newly PC Bang in Haeundae. Went to see see and have free coffee before 2nd round nearby.

People esp students and some adults can sit there whole day or some for few days just to play games. They serves hot food, drinks and snacks too like instant noodles and doosirak (lunch boxes)..so people who camp there whole day 24/7 can eat and play. They can even wash up in the toilet.

No wonder S.Koreans are world class gamers. Their internet is sooo fast. You see the way they play games..no lag. And i used to go PC Bang to check and reply emails also cos it is so fast. Then i no need bring my heavy laptop there.

After that went to have 2nd round. By the time i alr zoned out cos i was very tired.

We went back earlier cos next day is Chuseok 中秋 and everyone has to wake up early. Chuseok is a big public holiday (3days) and every where will be closed for 3 days. Even large dept stores. Some tourist attractions will be closed. So if you are going to Korea in Sept, be sure to check if it will clash with Chuseok and operating days and hours of the tourist attractions you want to go in whole of KR.

Woke up 7am in the morning after 4hrs of sleep cos hubs has to pay respect to his father’s grave before he come home. My Fil’s elder bro 큰아버지 will come our home to pay respect to Fil’s tablet.

Part of the food Mil prepared for past 2 days. While she prepare, sil and i will help to set up. Food used for prayers.

I bought mooncake and brought over.

Only the men do the rituals while sil, mil and i stay in the kitchen to prep for lunch later for uncle’ family and our own family. Thats why mil took 2 days to prep. Cos she has to cook some and send it to her mother’s hse also for prayers. Not easy leh..dont see like that look easy. Frying and deep frying everything is tedious..from washing to seasoning..to frying etc.

And also cook a pot of soup and prep lunch for 9 people.

It is a courtesy and dress code to dress in suit. This is a tradition. Told hubs to wear properly but he tiki (hokkien for steel teeth / stubborn) lor. Dont listen and insist wear his so called “fashion”. So he kanna from his uncle…uncle say it is tradition to dress properly in jacket w tie and ask him dress proper next time.

My nephew v cute hor hahaha Mil go put him there.

After their turn , uncle asked me pay respect to fil cos i bought mooncake and im the eldest daughter in law. So i followed what they asked me to do. It is my first time actually. Sil will pour me soju in a cup. Starting from 2 drops the around 4 drops then fill up to the brim. And i am supposed to circle the glass with both hands around the incense 3 times. But i do too fast cos ganchiong mah. So uncle told me to do slow cos my fil drunk liao if he drank too fast. He was joking to me lah. Lol.

Then sil and have to bow 2 or 3 times to Fil tablet.

Then we set the lunch table eating prayer food and other dishes mil prepared.

Whole thing ended at 1pm. We cleaned up, uncle and his family left and then Mil started to prep in kitchen again.

She suddenly say..we are going to have Hanu (Korean top grade beef. Equivalent to Japan’ Wagyu beef ) at 3pm.

Sil and i stunned cos we just had ermmm..lunch and cleared up but now we prepping for beef bbq.

Hanu 한우 is really good. You need to order this when you have bbq in Korea. There are shops that specialise in this.

So Sil and i set up the table again lol. We had beef, fruits and a good chat. Great family time spent together.
