It’s been another hectic week of work…this post was in draft mode for a week already.

Busy but fulfiling…met different people with different life inspiring stories and experiences and different problems.

Last weekend was spent cooking at Pamela’s house ! She is in the KBS (Korean boyfriend and spouse) group chat and she just moved into the same place ! But different block. So weekend evening was spent cooking Ddak Bokkeum Tang (Korean spicy chicken stew) and Bossam (Braised Pork) at her new place because her kitchen is bigger !

I blogged the recipe for Korean Spicy Chicken Stew before over HERE.

But i think i have not blogged about Bossam yet.

Cooking Bossam is very easy. You can do it concurrently with the chicken stew to save time.

How to cook Bossam (Korean braised Pork Belly) ?

This one is super easy ! You can do it ANYTIME.

More delicious and healthy to cook at home. Cheaper also. Because a plate of Bossam cost about SGD45 in restaurants along Telok Ayer and Tanjong Pagar and the serving is less than the one we cooked.

We bought 2 strips ( above picture portion ) for only SGD18 from supermarket which is more than enough for 4pax.

You need to buy thick juicy pork belly…not the ones used for BBQ.

This one is really DAMN THICK.

You can buy from the fresh meat section in Fairprice. It is about $0.89 per 100g.

I usually buy about 1kg. 1 strip can feed 2 pax. But my Mister eats alot..so i always buy 2 strips.

Wash the pork clean and dry

Boil a pot of water and add in the ingredients below together with the pork belly into the pot of boiling water.

Cut 1 whole onion into quarters

12 cloves of peeled garlic

3 table spoon of coffee powder

12 slices of ginger

3 table spoon of Korean bean paste

Boil the ingredients together with the pork belly for about an hour.

Take it out and cut into slices.

Garnish with sesame seeds

Tadahhh the pork belly is done !

Now is the sauce and kimchi.

Well , it tastes better with oyster kimchi but i don’t know how to make oyster kimchi so i just used normal kimchi.

Add abit of Ssamjjang and kimchi on top of the pork and wrap the pork belly with lettuce leaf . You are ready to pop this goodness ㅑ into your mouth ! So yummy !

Pamela and i took about 2 hours to prepare the dishes whereas the guys were in the living room playing game , drinking beer and talking. Quite typical in a Korean family setting. Lol. The women are always in the kitchen. But of cos , the guys cleared table after the meal.

It’s been 8 months since we got married. We will be celebrating our 1 year anni in 4 months !
We got married in SG on 11th Sept 2016 and 8th Oct 2016 in Korea!

But we should be celebrating on 8th Oct this year because we will be in Korea for 2 weeks for Chu Seok (mid autumn).

Mr Shin wanted me to wear a modern hanbok for Chu Seok instead of wearing the traditional one.

But modern hanboks are so expensive leh !

Both are nice leh .. still deciding..got 3 more months to decide lol

Chu Seok means maybe have to give out “angbao” liao. I need to get the hanbok designed envelopes. They look better than the white envelopes. Koreans don’t give red packets. They give in the form of white envelopes.

So on my ROM day in Singapore , his Korean friends attended our ROM and they all gave us white envelopes and have their names written so big on the cover. So my relatives were abit shocked. My ah ma also asked me why lol..she got a culture shock. Because chinese only give white envelopes with $$ during funeral.

I think i talked about my marriage life before. But now that we were married for almost 8 months.

Somethings changed and somethings don’t. What changes did changed for the better. But overall , our marriage life is very happy. Of cos , we also have those trivial squabbles..just nag and forget lor..like me not happy that my hub left all the dirty dishes in the sink and wash only later or next day or wait for me to wash. Im that kind who eat already must wash immediately. And he don’t like that i don’t close the tooth paste tab or leave traces of tooth pastes in the sink after my morning wash.

Married for 8 months already and many people have been asking me these questions :

” So how ?? Planning for kids ? “

“When are you having a baby ?”

“Why still don’t have yet ? “

“Trying for baby already ?”

Hear so many times until sian and lazy to answer.

We just started trying in March actually. Trying for a baby is a tiring thing to do. Married couples and mummies/daddies will understand.

Me and my friends or clients will have this “adult talk” about having kids , successful conception , what to do and what not to do etc. We are all adults and going through the same phase. So it is good to have people to talk to about the same topic.

It is really not easy..we missed the first month because of wrong timing.

My period became irregular due to stress and irregular working and meal hours. So for me , i really have to monitor my ovulation timing. I bought the clear blue digital ovulation test kit and test everyday.

Then…at the 2nd cycle, we got a superrrrr faint positive line on the pregnancy test kit. My period late and its been 3 weeks after my ovulation date. My heart was pounding and very excited about it. Doctor told us to test again few days later. So i tested again few days later and suddenly saw a negative. Shocked and worried , i went to see my doctor and only to realized i had a chemical pregnancy. And my period came 2 days after my doctor visit and it is those kind of clotty period. And also that month in April , i had high fever more than 38 degrees TWICE and once was 39.2 degrees.

What is a chemical pregnancy ?

A chemical pregnancy is a term used to describe a very early miscarriage. It usually occurs before the fifth week of gestation, or less than a week after your first missed period and positive pregnancy test.

My hubs and i were disappointed. So now , we have to keep track and monitor incase i get pregnant. And i am taking the BLACKMORES Conceive Well Gold multi-vitamins.

Trying for a baby is not easy.

Being pregnant is not easy.

And being a mother is also not easy.

So those who are going through these 3 stages…let’s JIAYOU and stay POSITIVE together !

If you have friends who are going through the stages above, do try to be more sensitive. Some couples really tried very hard to conceive but things just don’t happen. They are already disappointed and sad. So be more encouraging instead of just asking why . Because sometimes , we just don’t know the reason why even though both people are healthy. It could be due to stress and other factors. Some people are already stress about trying to conceive. So try not to stress them even more by asking them why still don’t have yet. If you really want to ask, be more empathetic.

Reviews of some of my Japanese beauty and make up buys !
There are sooo many products to choose from in Japanese drugstores. I can really spend 2 hours there combing every single row of shelves. So i went to check Naver.com (Korean’s version of google) to search for some of the MUST BUY make up or skin care items.

COW Brand Mutenka Non-Additive Face Wash Foam

One thing i like about this wash foam is that it is not drying because it contains ceramides. I uses this foam cleanser in the morning to wash off the overnight sleeping mask.

Bifesta Cleansing Water

I really love Japanese make up remover. To be honest , i haven’t been impressed by any Korean make up removers at the moment except the gel ones from Nature Republic. Maybe the Japanese puts on thicker make up and their cleansers are more “powerful” ?

I have been using BIORE Jelly Make Up Remover since 2007 ! Everytime i go JB , i will buy alot back from their Watsons because it is sooo much cheaper in JB.

And i only started Biore Cleansing Water since 2015. So this time , i decided to try Bifesta.

No space for bottles of Biore Jelly Make Up Remover in my luggage so i bought the refill packs instead. It is lighter and easier to pack.

Honeyce Hair Treatment.

Alot of Korean beauty websites recommended this MUST BUY item when you visit the Japanese drugstores. So i decided to buy 1 bottle and 1 refill pack. I have not opened it yet and should be using it next week after finishing my current hair treatment.

It is supposedly good for those with frizzy and dry hair.

My favourite Japanese make up brand – Cezanne. Sadly it is not available in Singapore.

I got to know about this brand when i visited Taiwan last year. I bought the lipsticks and eye shadows from the Watsons store in Ximending. I am currently using number 207 and just bought a new colour 206. I love this brand’s lipstick because it is very moisturizing and cheap (580 yen). I find it better than Canmake. Canmake colours are more cherry but Cezanne’s colours are more feminine. You can find this in Taiwan too.

I like their girly packaging ! So prettyyy !

Coffret D’or Smile Up Cheek Blusher in No 4

The packaging and rose shape is too pretty and i “bu she de” to use it !

One thing i don’t like about the packaging is that it is super bulky !

But the colours are nice. Shall review further after using it this week !

Cezanne Eye Shadow.

I prefer Cezanne’s eyeshadow because they are less shimmery as compared to Canmake’s

It is slightly matte.

Colour are sooo pretty ! I think the pigments are similar to Korean brand eye shadows because they are pretty natural and you need to layer alot ot make it more obvious.

That is all bout J-beauty. I bought some masks and skincare and shall review in separate posts because i have yet to start using them !

Now it is K-beauty !

I used up my bb cushions pretty fast ..about 1 cushion every 1 or 1.5 months. While i was looking into my BB cushion box where i keep stock my supply , i found this Leaders Insolution BB cushion. My MIL bought for me last October.

It is the Leaders InSolution Water Potent BB Cushion.

True to its name , it is really water potent. It gives a dewy finish and doesn’t require alot of touch up. The coverage is just nice. Not too sheer and not too thick. I realized that moisturizing cushions tend to have sheer coverage but this one fits in perfect. I am so IN LOVE WITH THIS !

Leaders Insolution is a Korean Cosmetic-Medical Brand made & tested by dermatologists of Leaders Dermatology Clinic which is comprised of Seoul National University Alumni.

Honesi Exofila Moisturizing Facial Cream.

Honesi products are soo popular. I love this facial cream because it really moisturizes my face very well !

They have 2 kinds of cream. 1 is slightly thicker and more oily and 1 is the one i am using below which is the gel version.

I am using the gel version.

The gel cream is now my holy grail.

I got the one below from a Korean beauty product distributor in Singapore and give it to my client who just got into an accident few months back and there are some abrasions on his face and hands. This one is slightly thicker in texture.

This cream was sold out in Korea within 2 weeks after its release.It is formulated to enhance skin regeneration to effectively improve acne scar and remove freckles. You can use it to improve scars too.

It is also another cosmetic medical brand popular in Korea. Reviews are all positive for their creams !

These 2 new K-beauty buys are the MUST TRY ! I am definitely stocking up on Honesi facial cream !
I am keen to try VANT 365’s cushion some day !

#Kbeauty Time !

Back from Korea for 2 weeks already but i have yet to sort out my cosmetics and skincare. So i decided to spend my Sat morning to pack and sort them.

I used to hoard and buy alot of Korean cosmetics when i first got to know and try them. I don’t know but maybe that time i am curious and want to try as many and also i seldom travel to Korea so i thought i should buy more at once and stock up since they are much cheaper there ( 30-50% cheaper to buy in Korea than SG ). But since now i go there twice a year , i don’t hoard or stock up that much already. They update their product range every season and there are always new products and new colours. I used to stock up alot of one thing and when there are new colours or new products launched, i regretted getting many of one kind because i need to use finish before i change. If not very waste money leh.

But there is one thing that i will really stock up no matter what …..guess what ?
BB Cushions !

I use them everyday and i touch up maybe once or twice a day especially after meals. So one refill can last me only 1 to 1.5 months. And there are different kinds of cushions for different days and depends on my skin condition on that day.

I just sorted them in a tiny box and also according to the expiry. All cushions in this box were bought this year and expires till end of 2019. You can find the expiry and manufacturing date at the back of the cushion.

Age 20’s Essence Cover Pact 3X in No 21.

This is a new cushion my MIL bought for me. It is a 3 in 1 kind of cushion which include sunscreen , skincare (essences) and bb cream. I was told that this is the IN thing among youngsters now so my MIL ordered a box of cushions + refills + serums + liptints for me. I have not done a review yet and shall do one for this one.

The one below is a new one. The one im currently using and kept in my bag looks already cui because i have been using it for 2 weeks already. I really like it ! It is really moisturising. I can feel the moisturising essence on my skin when i pat it on my cheeks. My skin doesn’t feel dry nor does this cushion cakes. Lasting power is good because if i were to top up , i will look every fairer. Unlike a cushion , it is a abit pact like.

Price : Not sure how much it costs since it was my MIL who bought for me.

Coverage : 8/10

Dewiness : 8/10

Moisturizing effect : 9/10

Lasting : 8/10

This is suitable for daily use for all skin types.

This is the pact which im using now. There is a dent on the left side was because i thought it was “spongy” so i pressed very hard with my fingers and it kinda “cracked”. The red and white ones are essences from what i know. It is not powdery not creamy. It is like a balm. Feels good and smells good also. I have been using this for 2 weeks already ! I used it in Korea to when the weather was abit cold and windy. My skin still felt moisturised and the coverage on my skin doesn’t crack from dryness either.

Really nice ! you should get one to try !

Hera UV Mist Cushion Ultra Moisture in No 21

One of my Holy Grail . This cushion is super moisturising and suits when you travel to cold country. I use this one days when i have really dry skin. But i don’t really use this one very hot days because it will make my face look very “glossy” when i perspire.
I had done the reviews for this couple of times already.

Laneige Whitening BB Cushion in No 13.

I have not done a review for this too.

To be honest , i am a little disappointed with this. I bought it because of the cute cover and was curious about it since i saw the advert everywhere. It is very drying and though i bought it a shade lighter ( no 13) than my usual shade which was no 21 , it doesn’t really ‘whiten”. I will use this probably when days are very hot because it is quite matte actually. It oxidizes pretty fast also.

To be honest , i am tempted to try out the Semi-permanent make up BB cover procedure at Lee Na Young Aesthetics Clinic which is a new Korean aesthetics clinic in SG but it is quite pricey. Heard the aestheticians and director/doctor is a Korean lady and quite pretty. Abit tempted to go for it because seems interesting and convenient that i do not need to put on any bb cushion after going through this treatment. The bb cushion is temporarily inked to your skin just like eye brow embroidery. But the pricing hor…hmmm….read that the results will last about 4-6 months.

It is 12 am now. Need to go for a good sleep and prepare for tomorrow’s challenge !

The studio said need 1 month ….. ok lah..if they do swee swee for me then 1 month of wait is worth it.

K-beauty time !

But before i start , i would like to ask Singapore travellers who are travelling to Korea to be extra careful due to the MERS outbreak in South Korea right now. It is kinda serious because Korean news site such as Naver have been reporting and updating the cases on Korean internet and news channels. It is Middle East Coronavirus . Many South Koreans were infected with the virus. You can read HERE for more details. Bring a mask just incase the situation worsen and who knows by then it will be difficult to find masks if you need. So please be vigilant and becareful. Read up the red-flagged area in the cities you are traveling to.

Ok..back to K-beauty time.

Now , people don’t go for thick foundations , eye make ups that looks like as if you are going for a wedding dinner or a fashion shoot or too glossy lips. It is about going natural. A Korean make up artist told me that now people don’t show off their make up skills by applying bold colours or thick eye make up anymore. It is how you managed to make it as if there is nothing applied except a simple eye shadow and eyeliner even though you actually put on a lot of make up . And at the same time , still makes your eyes look naturally attractive. It is to create a “as if i didn’t put on make up” look. My make up artist Yoona Han is really good at that. She is a Korean.

I took quite long to master this kind of skill. Sometimes , people asked if i put on make up and that means that day’s natural make up is successful because they don’t know if its make up or not. Im not perfect yet though because i do have my “failed days” which usually happens when i did not have enough sleep and my skin was abit dry so the make up doesn’t set properly.

This is not the first time i have blogged about Korean air cushions. I blogged about the top 3 air cushion brands which i used before over HERE.

If you do not know the history , AmorePacific ( a South Korean beauty company ) was the first in the world to invent the air cushion foundation back in 2008. Brands such as Iope , Laneige , Hera , Sulwhasoo and many others are under Amore Pacific wing. The first air cushion invented in the world was Iope Air Cushion which is still a popular choice among the locals. If you go to any public toilet in Korea , you will see most girls’ make up pouches contain the Iope Air Cushion. Now everywhere in Korea , you can find air cushions everywhere. It is very convenient. There is no need to bring a beauty blender , foundation brush and your bottle of foundation which can be heavy and cumbersome. The air cushions are very compact , light weight and the foundation soaked in the cushions can last you about 2 months. All cushions comes with a refill when you buy it in a box. Iope is available in Lotte Mart or Aritaum. The sponge also helps to blend in for a natural finish.

I tried using Iope before but personally i feel that it is not that moisturizing and the colour runs abit beige on my skin which doesn’t really suit. Hera suits my skin tone better and it gives a more dewy look on my skin as compared to Iope. Iope is good but just that the colour doesn’t work on my skin. Just like how Sulwhasoo’s air cushion colour looks orangey on my skin tone.

So , best is to try the colour first before purchasing and not just buy because you think that all air cushions under Amore-Pacific should the same.

From my personal experience , the Iope one looks abit beige or yellow on my skin , Hera one gives a more radiant pink tone but the Sulwhasoo one makes my skin looks abit orange.

Ive been using Hera for the past 2.5 years and im now a big loyal fan. Hera is not available in SG but i heard it may come into SG. But still i prefer to buy them in Korea because it is cheaper , tax refundable and also more and generous samples.

I had 3 different types of air cushions from Hera.

1) The normal and original one

2) Summer Long Stay

3) Ultra Moisture

Yes there are currently 3 types and each for different season.

The Summer Long Stay version is for hot and humid Summer weather whereas the Ultra moisture is for winter.

Im using

1) N21 for the normal one

2) C21 for Summer Long Stay

3) N21 for Ultra Moisture

Well here’s my review.

The Summer Long Stay version has a better and thicker coverage ( C stands for Cover ) and indeed it doesn’t melt on my skin despite the hot and humid weather which is why im switching to the Long stay version now because May and June gonna be very hot and humid. The make up stays and i only need to touch up once.

Coverage – Good coverage 9/10

Finish – Slight dewy 5/10

How long does it last – I only touched up once 9/10

The Ultra Moisture version was supposed to lock in moisture and at the same time prevents your foundation from caking. I blogged about it HERE before. I used it during my Spring trip to Korea back in March which was few months ago. My make up did not cake or look dry because of the cold weather. Instead , this cushion sets in properly and smoothly.

This was taken when i was in Busan during Spring. It really sets in nicely. But i won’t suggest using this during hot and humid weather. I tried it last week and it made my face looks oily. I guess it works on people with dry skin better in SG’s humid weather. But at least now i have an air cushion which i can use when i travel to cold countries.

Coverage – medium 7/10

Finish – Dewy (8/10)

How long does it last – I touched up only twice so i will give it 7/10.

The normal version is for everyday use or maybe on mlid weather conditions. This one works better on normal SG weather. I use this everyday but i realized i need to touch up alot when the weather gets very hot and humid. But it is ok if im indoor. Good thing about this is that it gives a dewy finish without looking too oily. Looks natural too. It evens out my skin tone.

Coverage – Medium 7/10

Finish – Dewy

How long does it last – I touched up frequently so i will give it 5/10

In summary , you can buy these 3 versions . Use the normal one on daily basis , Long stay if you are going out for activities or beaches etc , Ultra moisture when you are traveling to cold countries of if you have dry skin. One thing i like about these cushions are that it comes with SPF50. YAY to sunscreen ! I didnt get really burnt when i apply this UV mist cushion.

Some people asked me what is the diff between Laneige , Iope and Hera BB cushion. So i decided to blog it here.

Battle of the BB cushions.

I have been using BB creams since 2012. The first one was from Etude house because it comes with a sponge applicator that is soo easy to apply and i was only introduced to BB cushions in 2013 on my first trip to Korea. My first BB cushion was from Iope before i switched to Hera because i find it more moisturising and gives a more dewy look. Different BB cushion suits different type of skin tone and texture. I kinda like the IOPE one but if only it is more moisturising and i felt that the sponge seems to dry up much faster than the Hera one. After tested out these 3 brands before. I decided that Hera is definitely the winner in my opinion. For all BB cushion , im using Natural tone ( N ).

Iope BB Cushion (N21)

It is about KRW 40,000 if i can remember correctly. Comes with refill pack. You can get it at any Aritaumn shop in Korea.

Coverage : 6/10 – Medium and if you need more coverage , you need to pat more.

Colour tone – Pink with slight yellow tone

Finish – Slightly Matt. I can’t see any dewy finish.

How long does it last – Not really long lasting and you need to touch up pretty often.

Laneige BB Cushion ( #14 Pink Beige).

Cant remember the pricing but its about KRW 40,000 with refill. You can get it at Aritaumn , Lotte Dept Store or Shinsaegae Dept Store.

Coverage : 6/10 – Medium but slightly more than IOPE.

Colour tone – Pink with slight yellow tone. Even though it says PINK BEIGE but i see yellow tinge on my skin. Noted the difference once i put on my concealer. My skin seems to look yellow and pretty obvious after i applied my concealer. You can see the skin colour comparison.

Finish – Very slightly dewy. Slightly matte.

How long does it last – Quite ok and able to last more than 6 hours.

Hera UV Mist Cushion (N21) or (C21 for the long stay summer edition)

KRW45,000 with refill pack. You can get it at Lotte Dept Store or Shinsaegae Dept Store.

Coverage : 8/10 – Good Coverage

Colour tone – Pink tone.

Finish – Dewy

How long does it last – Long lasting.

The dewy part and the colour tone part is the one which won me over because i dont like foundations or bases with yellow tone. Prefer pinkish tone for healthy glow look. Coverage wise not a concern because my skin is good. And usually i touch up after meals because i use wet tissue to wipe my mouth after meals and i may rub it off.

I have not tried the ones from Sulwhasoo yet. Maybe one day i should get samples and let’s see which BB cushion is the real winner.

My room..hmm or should i say my dressing table is becoming like a Amore-pacfic counter…hmm more of Hera and Sulwhasoo counter. Because i have almost the entire range of white program and hydration range from Hera and LOTSA of Sulwhasoo samples. Because Sulwhasoo is so expensive , i don’t really buy the big bottle , i asked my friend from Korea who is working for Amore Pacific to send me lots of Sulwhasoo samples instead. Because i bought all my facial and make up products from her and have it shipped to my house from Korea. She is a beauty counsellor for Amore Pacific in Korea. Cant wait for her to come to Singapore for her company retreat. So i can bring her around. She will recommend me what is new , good and how to use it to achieve beautiful “bling bling” skin. My room is now filled with so many samples that i have to buy those drawers to put under my dressing table to store them and name each drawer ( e.g..essence , make up base etc ) ..too many. I have to buy tupperware from Ikea to store them too.

Friends who came over to my place will always go to my dressing table and ask for samples to try and try my products. Im like giving away samples from my home. Lol. I have hundreds of packets of them and including masks. Which means i save a lot of $$ ! Instead of buying a KRW 210,000 bottle of Sulwhasoo essence , i got the samples that is equivalent to one bottle instead. Because I’m a heavy facial product user and i always buy the entire set from Hera , my friend gave me a lot of samples. Im like her VIP regular customer. I seldom go shopping , buy clothes , accessories or handbags because i invest on my facial products. That’s why i hardly have any OOTD. But if you want MAKE UP OR FACIAL PRODUCT of the day , i can snap a lot of pictures for you. LOL.

It does feel good when most people i first met up with thought I’m a university student because i look young and friend’s 22 year old brother asked for my number because he thought i was 21years old. I feel good not because these people asked for my number. I feel good because i know my hard work in maintaining a youthful look paid off. I don’t smoke , don’t drink and don’t club. The most unhealthy thing is probably i love coke and coffee. I drink a lot everyday.

I think I’m influencing my friends , my blog readers whom i chat on whatsapp and cousins on the HERA and SULWHASOO fever. Lol. Everyday i have more than 5 emails asking about HERA products. Weather was crazily hot these days and humid. My friend’s sister introduced me to this newly launch – Hera Summer Long Stay UV Mist Cushion. It comes in Cover shade ( C ) and not in Natural shade ( N ) so i got the one in C21 instead. The normal one i used is N21.

There is a reason why is it called LONG STAY. It doesn’t melt under the heat. Unlike other cushion which melts off easily. This is good for summer especially in SG weather. It stays on for 12 hours and does not smudge like other foundations or cushions. After i used Hera UV mist cushion ( both normal and long stay ) , i stopped using other bb cushions anymore.

And my friend gave me Hera Magic Starter (Blooming Moisture) to try. I apply this before putting on the foundation or UV Mist. Makes my skin look very dewy and flawless. I really like the texture. It is very soft and smooth. Unlike any other primer or base i used before which is too oily and glossy. This looks natural. I don’t put on a lot of foundation or bases because if i do , i will look too pale. Sometime i skip foundation or bases if my skin looks radiant or clear that day.

She recommended me No 3 in Blooming Moisture.

She looks small when D carried her because D is very tall and big. But when i carry her , machiam carrying a lamb on my back. Sometimes i thought that she is already few years old because of her size and took me awhile to think that my dog is still a puppy in teething phase and going to 6 months old ! GASP !

Whenever we go out , people comment that my dog looks like a little lamb. Because of her ears , fur color and size.

Haven’t been to my tennis class for 2 weeks and now my skill is sooo cui. It is as though I’m playing badminton and the ball fly very high up. And when you are with 3 baseball players. The tennis became a “baseball” pitching against the wall.
